Organization's MISSION in the community:  The Laurel Center believes that everyone has the right to live without violence or the fear of violence.  The Center empowers victims of domestic and sexual violence by providing emergency housing, advocacy, support services, and education.  We reach out to our community through education and awareness programs. 

SERVICES in the community:  Emergency shelter, Confidential 24 hour hotline, crisi intervention, information and referral, support groups, court assistance, prevention programs, hospital response, and advocacy

Program Support Service Volunteers (complete 20 hours of training)
  • Child care
  • Fundraising event support

  • Data entry and more!
Direct Service Volunteer Program (complete 32 hours of training)  
  • Court advocacy
  • Crisis response to hospital
  • Answer hotline
  • Support in-shelter activities and more!

Crisis Intervention Companions (complete 40 hours of training)

  • Immediate response to survivors in the hospital and law enforcement settings
  • Overnight shifts via pager system

One-time event assistance needed 2-3 times per year for major fundraising events. 

Great opportunities for youth groups.

Essential Requirements of Volunteers:  A sincere commitment to help survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence.  Ability to respond well in a crisis situation.  Dependability and good communication skills.  Completion of agency-sponsored volunteer training.

Keeping CURRENT Minimize

Spring Training for Volunteer Crisis Intervention Companions:  CIC volunteers provide victim advocacy for survivors of sexual and domestic violence.  This 40-hr training prepares volunteers to respond to victims in hospital and law enforcement settings.  Join us!  Your passion and commitment are needed this spring, March 2 - March 31, Tuesday - Thursday each week, 5:30-8:30pm.  Call today to register!  540-667-6160

Emergency Shelter Items Needed:  The following is a list of items needed at The Laurel Center for their emergency shelter:  twin size fitted sheets, standard pillow cases, crib sheets, twin size vinyl zippered mattress covers, zippered pillow covers, twin size blankets, bath towels, and toilet paper.  (Linens must be new or in very good condition)  Donations may be dropped off at our offices Monday - Friday.  Please call the office at 540-667-6160 to schedule a drop off time.
