Organization's MISSION in the community:
To promote a child-focused approach to the investigation, prosecution and treatment of child abuse by providing a safe, child-friendly facility, a multidisciplinary team response to abuse allegations and professional support, education and advocacy services.
SERVICES provided to the community:
- The Child Advocacy Center (CAC) provides a non-threatening, multidisciplinary team approach to child abuse investigations in a child-friendly environment in which children can give their accounts of abuse to professional interviewers. The CAC offers the opportunity for forensic interviews to be audio and videotaped to prevent children from being traumatized by repeated interviews. In addition to facilitating the coordinated review, tracking and follow-up of child abuse cases, the CAC also offers funding for counseling services for child victims of abuse and their non-offending care-givers.
- A lending library with resources for child victims and their family members is maintained on site.
- Training, peer review, and education opportunities for child abuse professionals are also sponsored by the CAC.
VOLUNTEER Opportunities:
Office, clerical, and maintenance support, grant writing, program development, assistance with program planning, fundraising, special projects/special events, public speaking and advocacy efforts.
Volunteer Requirements:
Committed, dependable and able to work with minimal supervision (volunteers do not work directly with child victims or their families).
