Organization's MISSION in the community:   
The American Red Cross, humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its congressional charter and the fundamental principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. 

SERVICES provided in the community: 

Disaster Relief Services

The program provides immediate food, shelter and clothing to those affected by disasters such as floods, fires and other causes.  American Red Cross will respond to residential fires with immediate assistance while also partnering with local emergency management and fire departments.

Services to Military Families

American Red Cross provides 24 hour emergency communications during times of family emergency to local families with loved ones in the military.  Amercian Red Cross serves as the conduit between the military, societies and local families for financial assistance.

Health and Safe Training

American Red Cross provides training in the folowing areas: CPR/First Aid, use of AED, preventing disease transmission, lifegaurding, water safety, and baby sitting training to the community, and local businesses and industry. 

Transportation to Medical Appointments

American Red Cross provides free transportation to medical appointments in Winchester, Clarke, Frederick, and Warren Counties; University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia; VA Hospital in Martinsburg WV; and Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore, MD.  Clients must be able to get in and out of a vehicle unassisted.  Volunteers do not attend medical appointments with clients or advocate for them.  Minimum of one week notice of appointment is required.  

VOLUNTEER Opportunities:  Volunteer drivers, health and safety instructors, blood donors, assistance with Bloodmobiles, HIV/AIDS education, office volunteers.
