Organization's MISSION in the community:
RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) is a national volunteer program funded by a grant from the Corporation for National Community Service and the local support of Shenandoah Area Agency on Aging (SAAA). RSVP recruits and places individuals age 55 and older in volunteer positions with non-profit agencies, governmental agencies (includes schools and libraries), and proprietary health care facilities (hospital or nursing home/assisted living facility) to meet community needs. RSVP has memorandum of understanding agreements in place with over one hundred community organizations where RSVP Volunteers serve.
SERVICES in the community:
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, known as RSVP, recruits men and women age 55 and older who want to share their time, interests and talents as volunteers, and places them in volunteer positions with community organizations, know as RSVP Stations. RSVP strives to match volunteer interests with community needs in the Northern Shenandoah Valley Region of Virginia which includes the City of Winchester, and Frederick, Clarke, Warren, Shenandoah and Page Counties.
VOLUNTEER opportunities:
To be an RSVP Volunteer you must:
- have attained the age of 55 (or older)
- be in search of an opportunity to useful, needed and appreciated
- have the capacity to cooperate and accept instructions
- be able to commit to serve on a regular basis
- and be willing to share the benefits of your experience, knowledge, skills, understanding, maturity and dependability with a community organization
- be willing to report your volunteer service hours on a monthly basis
Benefits that RSVP volunteers enjoy include:
- accident and liability insurance coverage while volunteering
- the opportunity to request mileage reimbursement (.12 a mile up to $20 a month)
- or, the opportunity to have your mileage tallied for tax deduction purposes
- priority request for the annual dinner theater trip (at cost)
- a National Volunteer Week celebration event
- a subscription to the Senior Observer (newsletter of the Shenandoah Area Agency on Aging)
- an annual recognition luncheon
