Organization's MISSION in the community:
To serve communities throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia, to assist localities in establishing teams of trained medical, public health and community volunteers to strengthen the public health infrastructure and improve emergency preparedness and response.
SERVICES in the community:
The Medical Reserve Corps will assist citizens in the Lord Fairfax Health District (Clarke, Frederick, Page, Warren, Shenandoah Counties and the City of Winchester) by responding to medical emergencies such as bioterrorism incidents, large communicable disease outbreaks and natural disasters.
VOLUNTEER opportunities:
Who can register for the Medical Reserve Corps?
- Practicing or retired medical professionals, such as, but not limited to, doctors, nurses, emergency medical technicians, pharmacists, veterinarians, nursing and pharmacy assistants, psychologists, etc.
- Community members with special skills such as sign language interpreters, Military experience, crisis intervention professionals, and foreign language expertise.
- Community members such as educators, clergy, administrative assistants, computer use experts, managers, lawyers and funeral directors.
- Anyone interested in volunteering to serve his or her community.
What may Medical Reserve Corps members do?
- Provide an important surge capacity during a large-scale medical emergency
- Assist with mass immunization or preventive medicine distribution clinics
- Assist with the management of shelters during natural disasters
- Assist with administrative and other essential support functions
- Complete initial orientation and annual training. Opportunities for elective training and drills will be available throughout the year.
